Brunch & LGBTQ+ Walking Tours

Go Out & About with THE LAVENDER EFFECT on an Airbnb Social Impact Experience! We offer visitors and locals two different LGBTQ+ Heritage and Culture Brunch Tours of Los Angeles!.

Sunday GAY DTLA Tour

What we’ll do:

We’ll meet at Redline, Downtown LA’s premier gay bar & restaurant, for a mimosa and a tasty appetizer. You’ll get to place an order for your brunch entrée so that it’s hot and table-ready upon our return. From there we’ll hit the streets and wind our way through the richest and most vibrant Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) history and culture the City of Angels has to offer. From the gay-friendly Native Americans who first settled here to LA’s first gay porn theatre that opened in the 1880’s to the grand hotels and bathhouses that stated the secret desires of the Hollywood elite. Soon, we will have magically traveled back to Redline for a delicious brunch and mimosas. You’ll see why DTLA is so proud of its LGBTQ+ diversity!.

Where we’ll be:

  • Activism landmarks that pre-date Stonewall
  • Hidden architecture, memorials, and cruising hot spots
  • LA’s first porn theatre that opened in the 1880’s
  • Grand LGBTQ-friendly hotels, parks and a bathhouse that still operates today
  • New gay owned / friendly businesses, backrooms, and brunch spots

 Saturday WeHo Rainbow Tour

What we’ll do:

We’ll gather at Vinadoré Café in West Hollywood, owned by chef and LGBTQ family member – Denton Lai. We’ll kick things off with a mimosa and a delicious appetizer before we hit the sidewalks of WeHo! From there we’ll wend our way through the area known as “Boys Town” to discover that before WeHo became an independent city in 1984, this area was out of the jurisdiction of the LAPD. Some wild times went on back then and history shows that the party still continues! Find out where Judy Garland used to hang out with her “lavender lads”, travel back in time to the 1st LGBT supper clubs of the 20’s, see the bar where the phrase “lipstick lesbian” was first uttered, hear how the town got the zip code 900″69″ and much, much more. We’ll end the experience with a delicious brunch with new friends!

Where we’ll be:

Iconic sites: • Our “Vaseline Alley” in Boy’s Town that’s still active today • The spot of the 1st publicized Lesbian Kiss-In • The home of the notorious “FAGOTS STAY OUT!” sign • Activist Memorials like Matthew Shepard Triangle Park • LGBTQ owned businesses, hot clubs, and fabulous retail spots
