1981: The NYC Gay Men’s Chorus becomes the first openly gay musical group to play at Carnegie Hall with their Christmas concert.

1987: In the United Kingdom, Conservative MP David Wilshire introduces Clause 28 as an amendment to the Local Government Bill. The proposed amendment makes it illegal for local authorities to “promote homosexuality or … promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality.”
