1971: The Body Politic, Canada’s first gay rights magazine, hits newsstands.

1972: “That Certain Summer”, a made-for-TV movie about a teenage son learning about his divorced father’s homosexuality, airs on ABC. It is watched by almost 2 million people.

1999: Nancy Katz becomes the first openly-lesbian judge in the U.S. state of Illinois.
